The Listening Group

THE LISTENING GROUP

The Listening Group is a gathering place for anyone who is sincerely interested in the whole business of listening. In this case, listening is only a metaphor. It also means seeing, feeling, touching and sensing.  The purpose of this group is to grow in intimacy with oneself and build true connection with others and with our world. It has the over-arching purpose of evolution: moving forward together in our own life rhythms.

This group is about cultivating self -awareness and listening skills:
-listening to self
-listening to other people
-listening to our environment and our circumstances

Each meeting will focus on some aspect of listening and people will leave with something new to chew on and practice for the month. There will be some teaching time,  practice time and Q&A. The theme for the upcoming meeting will be posted on this website: www.focusingcenterofmichigan.com

Examples of the areas covered in these meetings are:
Creating a posture for listening: cultivating the inner space of curiosity, kindness, non-judgmental openness. (This will be the theme for the first meeting –January 24th, 2017)

Words:  when they are valuable and when they are a limitation: exploring effective communication.

What keeps me from being a good listener: Exploration of the ‘forces’ within and in our society that prime us to not listen very well.

The role of the body in listening: Mastering the tricky phenomenon of how the body speaks to us and also helps us to listen.

Venue: 32 N. Washington St., Ypsilanti, MI 48197
Dates and time: The 4th Tuesday of every month (6.30-8.30 pm)
Fee: Sliding scale $10-$15

I look forward to this adventure and to a whole new force of sincere listeners in our world.
